Let’s have a look at how you can become a part of this profession:-

  • Graduate from a recognized government university with a minimum of 50% marks.
  • Qualify for the SSC-CGL entrance exam or qualify UPSC exam with a good rank. Clearing the UPSC exam can help you to become an IPS Officer and then get transferred to CBI. Also, you can get the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police and then directly acquire the position of Grade a CBI officer.
  • Age limit to become a CBI officer
  • 20-30 years – For the General category
  • 20-32 years- For the OBC category
  • 20-35 years – For SC/ST Category
  • Physical parameters are also considered in the eligibility criteria-

Height

For men – 165 cm

For women – 150 cm

  • Candidates should have good eyesight-

Near Vision – 0.6 in one and 0.8 in another eye

Distant Vision – 6/6 in one and 6/9 in another eye

Why do most people want to become a CBI officer?

CBI Training Course

The cases are sent to the CBI when they are not managed by the State Police. A well-organized training schedule is made so that the individuals who will become a part of CBI soon can understand the nitty-gritty of investigation.

A training of around 1 year 7 weeks is given that consists of:

  1.  Institutional Training with CBI Academy (Phase 1),
  2.  Attachment with Local Police,
  3.  Attachment with CBI Branch, and
  4.  Institutional Training with CBI Academy (Phase 2).

CBI Training Fee

There are no fees involved for the training of a CBI Officer once you qualify for the SSC-CGL exam or UPSC exam.

CBI Officer Salary

The basic salary of the Sub Inspector post in the CBI Department is Rs.44,900. This post also avails 25% of basic pay and DA as a Special Incentive Allowance of around 11000. So, the in-hand salary is around INR 61000 to INR 63000.

The salary bar is raised during promotions when the candidate gets the positions of Inspector, Deputy Superintendent, Additional Superintendent, and Senior Superintendent.
