How to get admitted into NIT:-

  • To get admitted into NITs first, you need to clear JEE mains (Joint Entrance Examination) exam, a national level entrance exam conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency). 
  • This competitive exam is to secure admission to various undergraduate and architecture courses providing institutes that accept JEE Mains scores. 
  • A candidate can appear for JEE Mains only three times to pass the exam.

The paper consists of two papers:

National Institute Of Technology Exam: Paper 1 is for B.E./B.tech courses and Paper 2 is for B.Arch or planning courses. You can opt for any one exam or both exams.

  • Paper 1 is a computer-based online exam since 2019
  • It is offered in three languages: Hindi, Telugu, and English. From January 2021, conducted in 11 languages as follows: Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Odiya, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. The main subjects are Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

In paper 2 let’s talk about B.Arch first:

  • It has two parts which include Mathematics and Aptitude. It is held as a computer-based exam, except for the drawing part which is held offline.
  • Planning includes Mathematics, Aptitude, and planning-related questions. It is held online.

The reservation is as follows:-

  • People with Disabilities (PwD) will avail 5% reservation.
  • 15% reserved for the SC category.
  • 7.5% reserved for the ST category.
  • 40% reserved for the General category.
  • 27% reserved for the OBC category.
  • 5% of the total seats are reserved for women candidates.
  • Fee concession isn’t provided on the application fee to any student.
  • 50% of the seats in NIT are reserved under the Home State Quota; the other 50% are under other state quotas.
  • If there is any vacancy in the Home state Quota then it is converted into an All- India seat.

NIT Exam Registration Process

  1. Visit NTA JEE Mains official website, and fill in details for registration, like personal information, contact details, etc.
  2. Then fill out the application form with personal details and educational details. Further, upload the photo and signature.
  3. Then Pay the fee either through net banking, credit/debit card, or UPI.
    1. The fee for General/O.B.C. Male candidates is INR 650
    2. General/OBC Female Candidates is INR 325 and,
    3. SC/ST/PwD/Transgender Candidates is INR 325.
  4. Lastly, download the confirmation page.

If you have committed any mistakes while filling out the application form, NTA will give you an option to correct those by opening the correction window. Some details can be changed, only by paying the prescribed fee and, some can be done without payment. The admit card will be released on the official website. The counseling process is as follows:-

First, candidates have to register themselves in JoSAA. Then select their desired institutes, then SAA conducts mock seat allotment and locking of seats. The counseling will be held for seven rounds. Based on merit, category, etc. students will be allotted seats. According to the revised rule, a candidate needs to fill in only one application for all the sessions. The fee is carried forward to the next session if the candidate doesn’t appear in this session or, the fee will be refunded.
