The National Medical Commission has released the Maintenance of Standards of Medical Education Regulations, 2023 (MSMER-2023), stating that any medical institution in India that does not comply with the regulations and provisions will have to face a fine of Rupees 1 Crore.

NMC is an apex body that regulates medical institutions and grants recognition to medical qualifications, gives accreditations to medical schools, grants registration to medical practitioners, and monitors medical infrastructure in India.

The official notice also states that the doctors, department head/institute heads could face a penalty upto 5 lakh rupees for submitting false documents.

As per the official notice strict actions will be taken against the violator. This will include withholding and withdrawing the accreditation process. The NMC will withhold the admission to the violating institute for a period of 5 academic years.
