Indian Institute of Mass Communication: The IIMC, inaugurated by Indira Gandhi in 1965, is an autonomous institute situated in New Delhi. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Government of India supports it. Although the institute is situated in New Delhi, it has 5 regional centers which are listed below:-

  • Aizawl (Mizoram)
  • Amravati (Maharashtra)
  • Dhenkanal (Odisha)
  • Jammu
  • Kottayam (Kerala)

The IIMC conducts an entrance exam for students to get admission in its Post Graduate courses, known as the Indian Institute of Mass Communication Entrance Exam.’ The exam is conducted on a pen-and-paper basis in 20+ cities in India.

The important dates related to the said entrance exam are as follows:-

The application form for the entrance exam can be filled out online only, through the official website of the IIMC. Candidates just need to fill out the application form, upload the required documents, and pay the required fee for the exam and they are good to go.

NOTE: Candidates need to remember that there will be separate application forms for each course, except Journalism in English and Hindi.

Only 6 courses are provided by the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, which are all Postgraduate levels. IIMC doesn’t provide any Undergraduate courses at all. The 6 courses are as follows:

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Advertising and Public Relations
  • Hindi Journalism
  • English Journalism
  • Diploma in Odia Journalism
  • Diploma in Urdu Journalism

  • What’s the duration of the exam?

The exam will be 2 hours long and will be conducted on a pen-and-paper basis.

  • What is the fee for the entrance exam of the IIMC?

The exam fee is different for different categories. For general category candidates, the fee of the exam is Rs.1,500; whereas, for SC/ ST/ OBC/Ph.D. candidates, the fee is Rs.1,000.

  • What is the weightage of GD/PI in the process of shortlisting of candidates?

The written exam and GD/PI have a weightage of the ratio of 3:1 in the shortlisting of candidates for final selection.
