Indian Coast Guard Career: It is the national organization responsible for the enforcement of maritime laws and protecting India’s maritime interests. The Indian coast guard was made on August 18th, 1978, which is an independent armed force of India, as per the Indian coast guard act, which is working under the Ministry of Defence. There are specific duties which an individual needs to keep in mind while making a career in the Indian coast guard field.
The responsibilities are as follows:
- Protecting the artificial islands, offshore terminals, installations in the maritime zone
- Assisting and protection of fishers in distress

Indian Coast Guard Career: Eligibility
- Educational qualification– the candidates must have passed their 12th with Mathematics and Physics as their subjects. The minimum marks secured should be 50% aggregate. The ST/SC, the outstanding sports personnel of the national level, are given 5% relaxation.
- Age limit– the minimum age required is 18 years and the maximum age to apply for the navy is 22 years.
- Age Relaxation– The ST/SC is given five years of upper age relaxation. And the OBC’s are offered three years of relaxation.
Selection Procedure
The candidates who have applied for the Indian Coast Guard career are shortlisted according to the marks secured by them. Higher the scores higher are the chance of them getting selected. The selection process is provided below:
- Written Examination– The questions asked in the exam are objective type. The subjects included would be Math, Chemistry, English, and Physics. The items would be till the 12th standard.
- PFT– This round is for the students who have cleared the written examination. The candidates must have their sports shoes, pants, trousers, etc. This round includes 1.6 km run in 7 minutes, 20 squats up, 10 pushups.
- Medical tests– this test is conducted to check the fitness of the candidates. This round is held at INS Chilka.

Salary Concerned
Initially, in the Indian Coast Guard career, you will be paid essentially, which is 21,700 INR. Moreover, you will be given dearness allowances and other allowances based on the nature of duty performed. As you are promoted, you will be given a pay of 47,600 INR. Other benefits include ration and clothing, free medical treatment for family and self, government accommodation on nominal fee, contributory pension fee, gratuity on retirement, canteen, loan facilities, and E.C.H.S medical facilities.

Indian Coast Guard career application forms are out twice a year. Recruitment is divided into five zones East, West, North-East, North-West, A&N, and other Northern regions. Applications would be accepted online through the official website of the Indian Coast Guard.

- Where are the training sessions taken place?
Once selected, the training sessions are done at INS Chilka, followed by Sea training and professional trade training.

- Assistant commandant technical– The candidates interested for this post must have a bachelor’s degree from a university with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate or should have cleared section A and section B from institutes of Engineering.
- Assistant commandant general duty– should have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized college and have 60% aggregate. Candidates applying should have Physics and Mathematics as their subjects in class 12th with minimum 60% of marks.
- Assistant commandant (Commercial Pilot License) – Candidates interested should have passed 12th and should be having a pilot license currently/valid approved by date of preliminary selection.
