Brief About IELTS And TOEFL Exam: Which One To Choose?

IELTS and TOEFL Exam: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exams are opted by those students who wants to enhance their English communication skills particularly in reading, writing, listening & speaking. IELTS and TOEFL Exam, both are considered the best to measure one’s proficiency to use and understand English at the university level.

However, in this article, we will not compare IELTS and TOEFL Exam with each other, rather, we will try to brief you out with proper knowledge first.

IELTS (International English Language Testing System Exam)

An IELTS certificate is recognised as evidence of proficiency in English language by more than 10,000 education and training providers worldwide (according to official website).

There are 2 Common Tests in IELTS:-

  • Academic Test – Applicants who wants to go to outside(Abroad) for only study purposes should opt for this exam.
  • General Training Test – Applicants who wants to go outside (Abroad) for work/immigration purposes shoudl opt for such exam.

There are 4 areas in test which assesses one’s ability namely:-

  • Reading (60 minutes)
  • Writing (60 minutes)
  • Speaking (11-14 minutes)
  • Listening (30 minutes)

The total test duration is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Listening and Speaking are the same for both tests, but the subject matter of the Reading and Writing components differs depending on the test you take.

How IELTS score is calculated?

IELTS results are calculated on the basis of band scores on a scale from 1 (the lowest) to 9 (the highest).
