  • Diversification of horizon: Indian education system often tends to limit students to theoretical or bookish knowledge. Hence, skills cannot develop in the classroom alone. You can score good marks in exams but that is not a reflection of your communication skills or physical fitness. Hence, it is advisable for everyone to diversify one’s horizon and take part in activities like debates or MUN, instead of just confining oneself to the pressures of Academic And Extracurricular Activities.

For instance, if you are in your college’s basketball team or dance society, besides excelling in the sport or in the performing art activity you are bound to learn the art of adjustment. • Time for relaxation: As the saying goes, ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Your brain needs rest, a break from monotonous assignments and homework. Stuides or Extra-curriculars?

  • Do you want to follow your passion? Of course, there are many students who dreams to follow their passion after school or post-graduation. In that case, we have a suggestion for you:

Don’t run after educational courses once you pass out of school. Urge your family and go for higher studies in the field you love (like dance, music, or art). There are numerous acclaimed institutions in the country like the Indian Art College, National School of Drama where you can pursue your dream of becoming a professional artist or actor. In that case, there would be no scene of time management and you can give full-time to your chosen field.

  • But what if you are a Hons. /medical /engineering /law student? Being a full-time student wishing for a bright academic career and at the same time loving to groove or act on stage is not an easy combination to maintain. In school life, things are still in place but once you enter college it really becomes a difficult issue to manage both with proper time management. So, here are some tips for you to manage a good academic performance as well as an extracurricular life:
  • Follow your interests: Go for only those extracurricular activities that interest you. Don’t go for any society or club just for the sake of engaging yourself in a co-curricular activity as your peers.
  • Choose the one which requires less time investment: If you don’t have interests in any such activity in particular, but still want to do something for relaxation, we would suggest choosing the one where you don’t have to devote much of your time or the one which can actually be a positive addition to your academic career or your CV. For instance, being an English Hons. Student, you can join a creative writing society where you don’t have to devote much of your time; even if you do, that’s better from your academic point of view.
  • Follow a regular schedule: You need to set alarms to finish every work on time and look into the fact that you are not giving a lot of time to a single activity. To manage your time, you should most importantly prioritize all your activities equally and should make a weekly or monthly timetable and follow it at any cost.
  • Study smartly: Always remember that extracurricular activity has its importance but studies or academics always come first; so, try to not miss out on classes and lectures because study materials can help you to pass exams but in that case, your concepts will remain unclear. Get your concepts clear so much that you don’t have to waste a lot of time on one topic. Complete your assignments on time. What I’m trying to say is to study smartly, so that you can focus on your extracurricular activity as well.
  • Adopt healthy habits and lifestyle: And most importantly, if you want to manage both, adopt a healthy lifestyle. Eat and sleep well; otherwise, you will often find yourself tired and sandwiched between academics and extracurriculars and consequently, failing to cope up with both within time. Hence, take breaks and get power naps. In this way, it will be able to utilize your time more efficiently in  Academic And Extracurricular Activities.
  • Ask for help: Even if in that case you are not able to cope up with things, seek advice from your teachers or seniors. Ask for their help and if you are lagging behind in any subject request your friends or seniors to explain it to you.
